Martha Boden Appointed to HSUS Advisory Council
2007-03-03
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has appointed the Humane Society of Indianapolis CEO, Martha Boden, to its Companion Animals Advisory Council (CAAC).
The Companion Animal Advisory Council was created in 1996 to bring together leaders in professional animal care and control from across North America to share ideas. While the Humane Society of Indianapolis has no formal relationship with the Humane Society of the United States, the two organizations do work together for the protection of animals. "People are often confused about HSI's relationship to HSUS," says Boden. "Despite the similarity of our names, we are entirely independent organizations. We do not share funding or leadership. However, I appreciate the opportunity on the behalf of the Humane Society of Indianapolis to provide input and advice to this important national organization."
As part of the council, members may assist the Companion Animals section of HSUS as Animal Services consultants and help to spotlight on-going issues affecting the animal sheltering community. Members also offer their recommendations on many companion animal topics including feral cats, shelter adoption policies and the transfer of animals.
Animal shelter professionals are invited to join the CAAC only if they are highly recommended by their peers for their insight, innovation, and desire to generate community involvement in animal sheltering issues. Membership in this group puts them at the forefront of the animal sheltering community and represents the highest level of respect from their peers.
As part of her new responsibilities during her two-year term on the CAAC, Boden will attend two CAAC meetings held yearly - one at the HSUS headquarters in Washington, D.C. and the other at HSUS's annual Animal Care Expo, the world's largest animal care educational conference. Boden will share her opinions and expertise with HSUS staff, and provide content to Animal Sheltering magazine, the website and other publications and outreach projects.
The Humane Society of Indianapolis, in its second century of service, provides care for more than 9,000 animals each year. The mission of HSI is to provide shelter and comfort to animals in need on the path to loving lifetime homes.
