Surrendering Your Pet

To help us care for animals appropriately, an appointment is required to surrender your pet cat or dog to the Humane Society of Indianapolis.

Prior to your appointment, there are things you can do to help speed up the intake process:

  • Bring your pet's vaccination and other vet records
  • Bring any medications your pet is currently taking
  • Have your pet's coat clean and brushed

You are encouraged to bring some of your pet's favorite items along with you to help the pet transition more easily into the new environment. Donations of kennels, carriers, and other pet supplies are also greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.

IndyHumane Pet Food Bank

The IndyHumane Pet Food Bank, located in the Humane Society of Indianapolis Receiving/Intake area, provides pet food and supplies to families facing temporary financial hardship due to job loss.

The food bank is stocked solely by generous donations from the public, and we accept opened or unopened dog/cat food, treats, toys, and other pet supplies to help families in need keep their pets.

If you've lost your job and want to keep your pet in spite of the temporary hardship, you're welcome to take one large back of food or two small bags per week to feed your pet until you find employment.
