Leg amputation may save Big Bob’s life and allow him to be adopted for the holidays from IndyHumaneA cat who was hit by a car, shot and left for dead in Indianapolis over the weekend is now being cared for by theHumane Society of Indianapolis and may make a recovery in time for the holidays.
The 4-year-old male Russian Blue cat, named “Big Bob,” was found by volunteers of local cat-advocacy groupIndyFeral, who then brought him to IndyHumane for life-saving medical care. Big Bob’s thigh had shrapnel from a firearm embedded in it, and his leg’s fracture was so significant that the leg had to be amputated in order to save the cat’s life. Big Bob is doing well after his surgery and is being monitored by our veterinary team, which provides a variety of care in addition to spay/neuter surgeries to dogs and cats surrendered to the shelter and transferred from other rescue groups.
Our locally based, independent non-profit organization relies on charitable contributions from individual donors like you for the vast majority of our funding. We invest $600 - $800 in the average animal’s care. However, Big Bob’s surgery and recovery will far exceed that cost. Donations to assist with Big Bob’s care can be made in person at the shelter, 7929 N. Michigan Rd., online at IndyHumane.org, or by calling 317-872-5650 extension 125.
We don’t put animals down because of space or time and will make Big Bob available for adoption after he recovers. Though he’s not currently up for adoption, you can adopt any available cat 3 years or older for a discounted fee of only $25 until December 31, 2010!
